Georges DESPRET (1862-1952). "Leaping Fish", sculpture in po - Lot 251
Georges DESPRET (1862-1952). "Leaping Fish", sculpture in polychrome glass paste. Unsigned, Art Nouveau period, circa 1900-1905 (H : 25 cm) (chips) Similar examples, with variations of colors, preserved in the Chrysler Museum and in the Petit Palais in Paris (inv. n° OGAL246). Since the 16th century, the Despret family has been producing glass in the Maubeuge region (bottles, polished glass, special glass, etc.). Georges Despret took over the management of Glaces de Boussois around 1884. In parallel to his industrial activity, he started an artistic production of glass paste following the example of Henry Cros or Albert Dammouse. To develop this production he worked in collaboration with artists such as Alexandre Charpentier, Pierre Lefaguais and the sculptor Yvonne Serruys-Mille. Some of his glass pastes were presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
