MEURICE WHEAT. Large silver mirror, Minerve hallmark, with acanthus leaves decoration, the pediment bearing the coat of arms and the motto of the Huart family "mon coeur comme mon houx arde" (my heart like my holly), the reverse side of the mirror in blackened mahogany, silver plated metal support signed "FROMENT MEURICE". 19th century (H : 54 cm, L : 37 cm) The Huart family, of ancient chivalry, originated in the Duchy of Luxembourg. Several members of the family were famous in the Belgian political life or in the field of the industry (ironworks of Athus or earthenware of Longwy). The Froment-Meurice dynasty has left its mark on the history of goldsmithing. François-Désiré Froment-Meurice (1802-1855) left his mark on his era with exceptional jewelry and pieces. He trained his son Émile Froment-Meurice, who took over his father's workshop after his sudden death in 1855 and kept up the reputation of the company, which received prestigious orders and shone at the 1867 Universal Exhibition.
